Summer transfer windows are an opportunity for clubs to spend vast sums of money on players that will make an immediate impact at their new club, while for players it can mean moving to unexpected clubs.
This year’s transfer window has seen several major deals. Here are five that could occur before it closes on June 30.
1. Paul Pogba
Paul Pogba will become a free agent at the end of June once his contract with Manchester United expires, prompting speculation of him returning to Italian giants Juventus as his destination club.
French midfielder Anthony Martial joined Manchester United for a then world record PS89million fee and has played more than 200 matches for them, winning two League Cups and the Europa League title. Additionally, he helped France secure back-to-back World Cup victories, but his performances in England have fallen far short of expectations.
As his contract at Old Trafford comes to an end this summer, many clubs will be hoping to sign him as their midfielder. While Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain may be among his top choices, Inter Milan may also tempt him with an offer.
2. Sadio Mane
Sadio Mane of Senegal is widely acclaimed as one of the greatest African players of all time, playing for Liverpool FC and being honored as African Footballer of the Year for 2018.
Begun his career at Generation Foot Football Academy in Senegal before signing professional contracts with FC Metz and Red Bull Salzburg before arriving at Southampton where he amassed 45 goals within two years.
At his football games, Mane is well known for his generosity. He has donated money towards building hospitals and schools in Bambali as well as allocating a portion of his personal wealth for helping the people within his community.
3. Memphis Depay
Memphis Depay’s meteoric rise through the Dutch Eredivisie saw him make an immediate impression, earning regular selection for Netherlands national team duty. A powerful forward, Memphis is known for his composure, trickery and ball control as well as having the ability to score from distance.
Barca are eager to offload Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi before the January transfer window closes, with Chelsea as one of their potential destinations – which would certainly provide them with a strong attack capable of carrying them forward this season.
As Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Robert Lewandowski have arrived, his playing time at Camp Nou has diminished drastically; as such he has only made three starts across La Liga and Champions League this season.

4. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic of Lazio has been linked with an Arsenal move this summer. After seven years as part of their squad and earning recognition as one of Europe’s premier midfielders.
Negotiations over a new contract for Dejkovic has been going on for some time and his future remains unclear. According to Relevo, Arsenal are keen on making an offer before the summer window opens up.
At 28-years old, Lazio are understandably wary of losing one of their key players for nothing at this stage in his contract. Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport suggests they may make a bid – however Lazio have previously expressed reservations over signing anyone free at such an early stage.
5. Marco Asensio
Asensio currently makes up part of Real Madrid’s squad but is reported to be looking elsewhere for opportunities. His contract expires in 2023, yet he has rejected signing a renewal with Los Blancos due to wanting more playing opportunities elsewhere.
Talented winger Miguel Angel Pardo has recently been linked with Arsenal. Mikel Arteta wants him to join his side at Emirates, and is willing to pay an undisclosed fee in order to sign him.
The 27-year-old midfielder/forward is being courted by many clubs across Europe, with Barcelona and AC Milan particularly likely suitors. He can play either midfield or forward roles effectively and could become an important piece of the Spanish national team should he move.
